Rayze review

An entirely mouse-controlled first-person parkour/racing game in a similar vein to games like Verlet Swing and Cyber Hook, if they were crossed with one of those FPS aim trainer programs. Tracks are generally short and visually simple, mostly assembled from geometric shapes with targets dotted around them. Hitting one of these targets causes you to speed up and fly towards it, missing slows you down, collisions cause you to restart the level and that's about as far as gameplay goes. Simple, but surprisingly challenging and satisfying, with a great sense of speed, at least when you know which way you're supposed to be heading. Some of the later levels can be somewhat visually confusing, which causes the game to lose that all-important sense of momentum as you slowly glide around trying to find out which target you're supposed to hit next. The game features a so-called "Story mode", complete with some hilariously bad dialogue, and a time attack mode. You can see it all in about an hour, but then again, that might be approaching it from the wrong angle. This is a game about replaying tracks over and over, trying to improve your standing on the online leaderboards and if that appeals to you, then I'd say Rayze is worth a buy, especially when on a deep discount.
